V & A Lecture Theatre

This refurbishment of the existing Grade I listed lecture theatre at the Victoria & Albert Museum included designs for a new decorative acoustic lining, control box and finishes as well as the coordination of the works.

The existing designs within the cupola ceiling have been used as inspiration for a subtle decorative pattern to the timber lining that surrounds the space, and these were developed with a scenic painter using varnish. These subtle motifs just catch the light from certain angles and create a clear contemporary feel that has a memory of the past.

We worked closely with the Museum staff, an acoustic consultant, English Heritage and the London Borough of Kensington & Chelsea to achieve a refurbishment that not only improved the quality of the space, but also to give it a contemporary feel.
