Magdalen House

Magdalen House is a nineteenth century warehouse on Tooley Street in Southwark, London. It is a characterful design with banded brickwork and a giant order of masonry pilasters to the main facade. The brief was to retain what is strong in the original design and augment this to meet the needs of the 21st Century office.

We proposed that the existing roof extension was removed and replaced with an elegant recessed pavilion. The extension is higher on the Tooley Street elevation than at the rear to give a strong finish to the public face of the building but reduce its impact on the residential occupiers behind.
