Justice in the Balance
Shire Hall Historic Courthouse Museum, Dorset

We have designed a new museum - that runs through a series of spaces within Shire Hall, the site where the Tolpuddle Martyrs were held and tried.

We explored 200 years of justice, injustice, crime and punishment in a series of new galleries and original spaces including a series of cells, docks and courtroom.

Interpretation, objects, films and sound were woven through the visitor’s experience, working with the lighting designers DHA Design, and filmmaker Nick Street.

We worked on the 3D exhibition design, 2D graphic design and wayfinding, including the new branding for the museum, exterior signage, branding for the shop merchandise, as well as a new website www.shirehalldorset.org.

The spaces are rich in their historic context, and we found interesting ways in which to bring the stories to the forefront, but introducing ways in which the whole family could explore and enjoy the experience.
