We designed the 3D and 2D elements for the exhibition, Fashion on the Ration, at the Imperial War Museum North. This exhibition explores how fashion survived in unexpected ways during the 1940’s; from ‘onesies’ to wear in the air raid shelter to jewellery created from aeroplane parts and how austerity did not put an end to creative design or fashionable trends on the British Home Front.

It is a unique theme and we were very interested in bringing out the beauty of the clothes and fabrics through the use of bright colours as well as telling the everyday stories of the people through large quotes and oversized ‘monumental’ graphics. It is an exhibition for which the design of the showcases was crucial as it became part of the theatre of the costumes which in combination with DHA Design lighting gives a beautiful sense of a nighttime high street walk.
