William Creighton
Architectural Assistant / Designer
William Creighton joined Nissen Richards Studio in 2024, bringing with him a diverse background in cultural, indigenous, residential and educational projects from his time working in Aotearoa New Zealand and Australia. His professional experience also includes significant involvement in projects aiming to reach full Living Building Challenge approval, a rigorous sustainability certification with fewer than 30 buildings globally meeting its highest standard.
William studied at Victoria University of Wellington and The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen, where he developed a deep interest in architecture as a form of social commentary. His master’s degree, awarded with distinction, focused on the exploration of identity, and his thesis project delved into the queering of space across three distinct scales: a haptic installation, a rural co-living complex, and an urban spatial assembly. During his final year, William was awarded a master’s research grant, spoke at the NZILA Firth Conference, and represented his university in the national NZIA Student Design Awards, where his work was ranked among the top 12 projects in the country.
After completing his studies, William’s team won the Brick Bay Folly competition in Auckland with the project Te Reo o Te Hau (Voice of the Kōkōhau). This self-managed installation was designed and built entirely by the team, even as Cyclone Gabrielle impacted the region.
Outside of the office, William is a passionate baker, film photographer, traveller and cyclist.
He is currently contributing to the architectural projects at Nissen Richards Studio.
