Ambulance Trains

National Railway Museum

The story of an ambulance railway carriage comes to life through theatrical techniques

Exhibition Design, Graphic Design, Selected

Our exhibition, Ambulance Trains, is designed in and around a historic railway carriage at the National Railway Museum in York. It tells the story of a First World War ambulance train.

Through a series of immersive environments that uses projection, sound and historic images alongside carefully reconstructed interior fittings, our design aims to recreate the atmosphere of these trains. We worked closely with actors to produce authentic depictions that are projected directly onto the carriage, with a soundscape of voices telling extraordinary stories in people’s own words. The exhibition explored a wide range of personal experiences of staff and passengers through the careful use of original photographs, technical drawings, letters and diaries.
