Beyond El Dorado: Power and Gold in Ancient Colombia

The British Museum

A major temporary exhibition exploring Colombian gold through a series of thematic spaces

Exhibition Design, Selected

This exhibition for the British museum introduced the truth behind the myth of El Dorado and reveals the ritualistic use of gold in ancient Colombian cultures. We designed a series of story-led spaces which were interspersed with theatrical scenic techniques to create colourful and textured spaces that counterpoint and contextualise the gold objects.

Over 300 beautiful objects are displayed, which cover the varying gold production techniques used by the different societies. Beautiful animal body adornments and ceramics with human representations make this exhibition feel full of the characters for whom the gold held a deep-rooted spiritual significance

Guardian – Jonathan Jones ‘This exhibition challenges the poverty of our imaginations.’
