Tove Jansson

Dulwich Picture Gallery

Our design for this exhibition, showcasing Tove Jansson’s work, was inspired by her beautiful illustrations

Exhibition Design, Graphic Design, Selected

This exhibition was the first major UK retrospective of Tove Jansson’s work, drawing on her wider outputs of graphic illustration and painting, as well as her internationally renowned Moomin characters.

We wanted to bring a unique and playful visual identity to this exhibition. Taking inspiration from Tove Jansson’s illustrations, we introduced Moomin characters onto the walls to lead the visitor through the spaces, as well as throughout the museum, as if they had ‘escaped’. Using her beautiful scenic illustrations, we created large-scale graphic wallpaper to immerse the visitor in the fantastical world of her imagination; and a magically lit forest-like space for the visitor to sit and reflect.
